My wife bought a I40 for christmas. never used a game camera in the pass its been a nightmare. It would shut off or go in a sleep mode and never come out, Sent it back
still did the same thing. I PUT IT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK RAN IT OVER AND THROUGH
IT IN A LAKE... My advice save up alittle more money and buy a good one.

i must be lucky.i have two i40 cameras for four or five years now and had no problems at all.i think for the less than 100 bucks a piece i spent for them that it was a great investment. as for the white out problem i have come to realize that it is an animal within inches of the camera win flash picture is taken. i have thousands of pics and they still are as good today as win i bought the cams. bought a i50 couple of weeks ago hope works as well as my i40s.

My Moultrie 4.0 with infrared flash had a lot of white outs --- Until I set the picture quality to highest setting and bought a Quality SD card. Great pictures and no whiteouts. My only compaint is the shutter noise, 98% of the deer were looking right at the camera! Never saw the same deer twice? Too noisy? Did a search of tail cams with quietest shutters and didn't get any results and haven't seen a tests on that subject? any body eles?

Great Camera, when it works. I have bought two.... one finally made it into the trash 1/2 way through second season. I went to my back up and again it's 1/2 way through it's second season and it freezes up, stops working, won't reset. becomes non responsive.(just like the last one)... replaced the batteries... no change... replaced card.... no change.... it's 70 degrees and it's junk. I just purchased a couple of Cuddybacks.... you get what you pay for.

Very disappointed right from the get go with this unit. Doesn't seem to work in cold weather whatsoever. I walked in front of it right after I took from the warm to the cold outside and it took 5-8 seconds before the flash went off. I had coyotes less than 15 feet away from the camera that night and it didn't even take their picture.

Owned 6 moultrie I 40. They were pretty good
cameras. Over 2 years sent everyone back to
moultrie display slowly faded away. I will tell
you one thing there customer service is great.
They replaced every camera with no problem.
Some were only 3-4 months old. It did cost me
$10.00 everytime I sent them back. I feel like
they owe me around 70 bucks. So I went to
cuddeback capture, had them for 5 months and
really like them no display to worry about, 2 less
batteries. Fast trigger speed and very good pictures.

I have a moultrie I40 that worked flawlessly for 18 months and all of a sudden I couldnot read the LCD to set time etc. however the camera still tool great pictures. I contacte Moultrie and although the camera warranty is 12 months thay said send it in and we'll fix it. I got it back and the LCD worked for one week but the camera kept taking good pictures, I did not want to send it back during the rut. A month later after the rut, I sent it back again and a 2 weeks later a brand new camera arrived. Great customer support for a comaera that was out of warranty.

I don't see how you can recommend Moultrie's I-40 to anyone. I have two of them and they have been nothing but trouble, they seem to use extremely unreliable components and the customers service is not the good. Sure they will send you a new replacement game cam, that won't function properly either. I would much rather just buy one cam and have it in use for 5 or 6 years.

I have talked with other owners of the I-40 and 90% of them are dissatisfied also. I am not sure about what is going on with the quality control at Moultrie, but something is clearly wrong.

At this point I cannot recommend the game cams to anyone.

So far, I have sent the cameras back on three different occasions and I have a second I-40 that is starting to have the display going out on it, so I will be sending it back to you also.

The time line.

Feb 2008 - Purchased first I-40 game cam

Apr 2009 - Purchased second I-40 game cam

Apr 2009 - Display went out in March, 2009 on first game cam. Sent game cam back to Moultrie April, 2009 and received a replacement game cam. Time in service = 11 months.

Aug 2009 – Started having problems with the motion detection on first replacement game cam. Sent back to Moultrie and received another game cam. Time in service = 4 months.

Sep 2009 – Second replacement game cam will not “boot up”. Will send back to Moultrie.
Time in service = 0 months

Sep 2009 - Display on second game cam is going out and is also having issues with not keeping correct time. Time in service = 4 months.
